Reading
Students will focus on using a variety of comprehension skills to read and understand complex fiction and nonfiction texts. Third grade uses the Wonders ConnectED program which is linked here. Students can practice reading skills through Lexia Core 5.
Writing
Students will write for a variety of purposes using different formats including informative, narrative, and opinion writing utilizing the writing process.
Math
Students are immersed in a myriad of hands-on activities to motivate and engage their understanding of mathematical concepts.
Social Studies
Third grade social studies will focus on Colorado Springs. Students will explore geography concepts through Daily Geography and other units on map skills.
Cursive
We will be teaching D'Nealian cursive.
Spelling
Students are expected to spell grade level words and words included in the text correctly and utilize resources as needed.
Science
Students will have hands-on experiences with four science units this year: States of Matter, Earth Movements, Microworlds, and Plant Growth and Development.
How can I support at home?
Students should regularly practice math fluency using Reflex Math. Students should also practice math concepts on IXL.
